The Goth-Father of Comics.
The character of Batman is a shadowy presence e. He does not wear the Superman costume is not happy and cheerful sarcasm Spiderman. He is a far more complex character.
Out of all the superheroes of the past only the original Batman has all the right image, atmosphere, characters and scenarios for consideration as a true Goth. There were some elements that are attached to some of the other crime-fighters who had a penchant Gothic, Ghost Rider, 'The Ghost' and 'even Will Eisner's The Spirit' had certain attributes, but Batman is the closest thing to truly be "goth."
Where there are bats There are Goth.
In July 1982, Soho, London, the first Gothic nightclub opened its doors for a young and darkly dressed Patchouli anointed. Regular visitors included people from the club as Siouxsie Sioux, Steve Severin, Robert Smith and Nick Cave. The club was called The Batcave.
Ok, it was not just Batman, who helped influence all of this. Think Edgar Allen Poe, Bram Stoker, Rogue and even Yvonne Carlo of the Munsters. But not is a bit of a coincidence that the club was named after Batman real hang-out? (So to speak …)
The dark and mysterious wonderland.
In then there is the city that is such an integral backdrop of most Batman stories, – "Gotham."
As the name suggests, is a dark place, which is full of dark alleys and sinister, maniacal enemies.
A place where steam from manholes and "patrols Dark Knight" in silence, only hesitating between the shadows and mist.
Batman costume is pure Goth. Has subtly changed over the years to become even more. The cape and bat mask with pointed ears could easily have been approved by the frontman of a band of Gothic fans without any problem. Even the Bat-symbol can often be seen stamped in black t-shirts worn by Goths, even the most obstinate.
Batman Goth-La hits the mainstream.
In 1989, Tim Burton (director of striking Gothic influences visible above in such films as "Beetlejuice") launched its movie version of 'Batman'. This was darker than the Batman franchise to date and went down a storm. In 1992 he released "Batman Returns", which took the gothic feel several steps. The main score of the film was even performed by legends Siouxsie Gothic " and the Banshees. Between the two Batman movies, he also created the masterpiece 'Edward Scissorhands' gothic style with great Johnny Depp as the protagonist.
Since then, the industry of Batman continues to wallow in its darkness, with several other additions in the Gothic style for the string of movies. The most recent release, "The Dark Knight," caused quite a stir with his dark and atmospheric. "Is this movie for children or for adults? Asked press.
Thus, long before "Neil Gaiman's Death" had a Gothic hero. And before "Donnie Darko" and how the world the film had already used the t-shirt … and was a symbol.
