Timex Ironman iControl clutter my iPhone volume. What do I do?

I recently bought a Timex Ironman iControl and every time I plug the power adapter on my device (iPhone 3G) on the volume bar of music sound disappears and becomes incredibly quiet. Pressing the + and – buttons neither increases nor decreases volume. Has anyone experienced this problem?

I have an iPod Touch (second generation, 32GB) and I have had the same problem! I searched in vain, and none who has the answer. I have contacted timex, they have not gotten back to me yet.
