This beautiful county was formed in 1889, but has a history ranging from very rich before this year. The Indians, including the nations of the Tongva, which means "people of the land" and the Juaneno, which were named after Mission San Juan Capistrano by the priests there, and Luiseno, which are named by priests because of its location near the Mission San Luis Rey de Francia, lived here long before European settlers arrived. After Spain claimed the land and built a series of missions in the area in 1887, the colonists discovered that the mountains Santa Ana held the silver, which has led many more settlers to travel outside the area on the railroads in search of fortune. Due to the large number of people who come to the region, governor of California decided to create Orange County as separate from Los Angeles, but the county was named for the citrus crop that grows so well there.
Orange County makes a great holiday destination because it is home to both Disneyland, opened in 1955, and Knott's Berry Farm, which officially opened as an amusement park in 1968. Visitors and residents come here for the Mediterranean climate, beautiful as well the 42 miles of magnificent beaches that are accessible throughout the year. Surfers love the beaches sand, and all types of boats are a wonderful feature of Riverside Orange County.
Because of agrarian roots of the region, there is a beautiful park that was reserved for the amusement of everyone, and you will find many golf courses in Orange County who take advantage of all the scenic beauty there.
