Silver Surfer, good or bad?

I read a few comics when I was very young. I always thought that, in general, the Silver Surfer was a "Good boy." A trailer for the new Fantastic Four movie gives me the impression that it is not necessarily an adversary, but he seems to be on their side too. Did I miss something?
