Golf holidays at Praia Del Rey

The 18 hole par 72 championship links course at Praia d’el Rey is rated among the best in Europe. With spectacular views over the Atlantic and the Berlenga Islands, it offers a challenging and exciting experience. Nearby, the new Bom Sucesso course opened in September 2008 and is a 10 minute drive away, while Golden Eagle and the Lisbon Coast courses are equally accessible. Our favourite activities when on a Portugal Holiday are:
Tennis – Pedro Feiner and Miguel Moreira run the Praia Del rey Centre. Pedro is licensed in Physical Education and Sport and qualified to Portuguese Tennis Federation Level II. Pedro, pictured bottom left, is a director of Caldas da Rainha Tennis Club and Trainer of the Portuguese Team. The centre has seven all-weather courts and a Club House with changing facilities and a cafe. Courts can be hired by the hour or by the day and one of the courts doubles as a football pitch. There are a range of training, tuition packages and prices to help you improve your game.
Surfing – The local Praia Del Rey beach stretches for miles in both directions from the resort and is excellent for sunbathing, walking and surfing. It’s a short walk from most of our properties and there are two parking areas for beach access. The local beach is patrolled during the peak season and a lifeguard is based at the beach access beneath the Marriott Hotel and Vila da Praia. Swimmers and surfers not used to the awesome Atlantic surf should observe the Safe and Danger flags. There is an unmade road from Praia D’El Rey all the way to two excellent beaches Baleal. The drive takes less than fifteen minutes and includes three more surfing beaches. The huge bay at Peniche and Supertubos is on the other side of the Peniche peninsular. For most weeks of the year surfers from Portugal and all over Europe find their way to these beaches.
Windsurfing – the Lagoon Sailing School, is along the coast from Praia D’El Rey outside Foz do Arelho. The lagoon is open to the sea but free from the Atlantic waves making it an ideal location for beginners and experienced sailors and windsurfers. The school has an excellent training programme for all ages and they specialise in teaching kids as young as six the basic sailing skills. With groups of six or more they will arrange to meet you on the PDR side of the lagoon – saving the drive around the lagoon. The school has all sorts of boats, boards and equipment for hire. For kite surfers the lagoon is an ideal location particularly where the lagoon meets the ocean.
