Dear Silver Surfers. Is it just me or is it a new fad sweeping the older generations?

As of late, I've been noticing more and more elderly gentlemen, and in some cases ladies, hats adorned with a large number of badges. And often, these emblems are sources of charity. So my questions, This is a recent fad, or that has been occurring for some time now without my knowledge? What are the origins of kleptomania? I was naive in thinking that people like you were beyond the fads and peer pressure? Not like you have a hat? And if so, what form is adorned with badges? Thanks for your time. Actually, I had always assumed kleptomania was about collecting them, but some of them look shifty and could very well be stealing them.

My husband has the hats that whenever it receives a pin he put there. I think it looks nerdy, but he likes so I just close my eyes because he's a nerd anyway. A kleptomaniac is someone who picks up things that do not belong to them, like going to the store and pick up material and place it in your pocket without paying for it.
