Marvel Comics Plants

Have there ever been cases of attempted mutations?
For any Superman or any other Marvel comic "fans ask you get away now. That said there have always been cases of people literally trying to turn an animal or person for a specific reason or simply to see what happens? If so what were the results and who or what was the test subject (s)? Any change in general, this could involve plants, etc. Has it ever been tested in humans alone? What are the possibilities, so to speak any useful ones, such as growth rate, etc?
This is done all the time by scientists working with "model organisms. these are bodies that have properties that make them especially suitable for this type of work. For example, fruit flies, zebra fish, worms, mice, rats, Arabidopsis plants, etc. etc. There are two approaches to discover which genes do what in an organism. One way is have an animal that has an obvious abnormal phenotype (Just as an illustrative example, consider an animal born without ears), after studying the genome of the animal for any change to help him discover that the gene is normally responsible for the growth of the ear. The other option is to give animals chemical mutagens or use of techniques molecular biology to introduce a mutation in a specific gene that is suspected of having a specific function. Then you grow with this animal genome changed and see if he developed the phenotype expected (for example, without the ears). This kind of thing is done a lot of zebrafish. they are very small organisms tansparent whose organs are easily observable without dissection. What they usually do is to introduce a mutation (chemical mutagens) in the germ line of these fish when they breed they give birth to many children, each with a single random mutation (s) in its genome. This is because the mutagen acts randomly and can thus transform any point in a genome. The next thing to do is look at all the zebra fish and see what the mutation features that are abnormal. If scientists were interested in heart function, which can only be specifically looking for fish with hearts unusual, for example. Once you find these fish, they characterize the abnormality that is accurate and then they look at their genome and see where the mutation and therefore probably where abouts gene (s) responsible are located.
