Five franchises that would make Great MMO
Orcs, elves, elves, dwarves and gnomes, are tired of them yet? The seemingly eternal success of World of Warcraft I would say no, but let's take a look at some other franchises mass that could easily make the jump from movie, book or feeling a player for the classic MMO moment.
Transformers: With over thirty years of history and two movies (Transformers and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen), the her name during the last five years has raised nearly two billion dollars in worldwide box office, no detours, robots in disguise are great new, huge, actually.
Who would have thought that a thirty minute toy ad disguised as a children's cartoon from 1985, form the basis for a multi billion dollar franchise? Men in suits, that's who.
How could it work? The temptation would be to go with only two classes, Autobot and Decepticon, but why not also introduced a third playable class, humans? They always had a role in Transformers history, director of the Witwicky (in both Transformers: The Movie and the new live action revival).
The game could take place in several major cities in the real world and even extend to other planets and places described in the myths Transformers fictional, sites such as Cybertron, Autobot City and Junk.
As any fan of Transformers will tell you, this should definitely be MMO based on the generation One Dreamwave comic series.
Chances of that happening: Despite the fact that the franchise is great at the moment, this is a long shot. Activision Blizzard is the video game license of the current owners and they seem happy to give us a multiplayer game not with the massive release of each entry in the franchise of films, but does not seem hot about the idea of starting a full blown MMO project into production in some of their studios. You have to think the chances of a Transformers MMO being made are very small, at least until the films have its course.
Call of Duty: Ironically, the caption for the last game Call of Duty World at War, would have been a great title for a massively multiplayer entry in the series, he still had a way of attacking zombie horde that would have been perfect for an MMO Halloween novelty of those events that developers like to play in attracting subscribers back to the fold.
How could it work? It's not particularly difficult to imagine that players can choose different "Races" from U.S. Special Forces British SAS and all. You'll also be able to choose what class of soldier you want to be, a tank-like demolitions expert equipped with RPG's, C-4 and a shoulder strap supplied with grenades, a stealthy Navy SEAL, or perhaps a class field medical support? The choice is yours.
The chances of this happening: You can bet Activision Blizzard is already recording this one out. Call of Duty franchise is the biggest video game at the moment, more experienced and financially Activision's CEO Bobby Kotick us unlikely to let this cash cow unmilked go long.
The question is, that Activision has the stones to make him pay for playing in a climate that is increasingly edging into the free model to play? Oh, and we will route the venerable World War II, or the coolest Modern Warfare route?
Harry Potter: It's frankly amazing that we have not seen that yet. The Transformers movie may have mounted to almost two billion dollars in worldwide box office, but Harry and his Hogwarts friends are on another level entirely.
The Harry Potter books have sold nearly half a billion copies, the films generated over a staggering five billion dollars in box office worldwide. You could argue that with the number of wrapped books and movies that comes to your own conclusion in the next two or three years, Potter mania is no longer at the peak but is still one of the most financially lucrative licensing of entertainment around.
How could work? first thing First, movies are great, but let's base it more on the books right? After all, you have an absolute wealth of material there, why let it go to waste? EA is also blessed with an abundance of studios at home, with the necessary experience and pedigree to do well in a Potter MMO. Studios as Mythic and Bioware have the necessary skills, and Potter fans know what material was in good hands.
Obviously the game that revolve around Hogwarts and its grounds around the forest, the Forbidden Forest, Hogsmeade etc, but let's not forget that there are other schools of magic in the Potterverse as Durmstrang and Beauxbatons.
Needless to say, you must enroll at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, you will be able to choose which house you belong to (or maybe the AI controlled Sorting Hat should do this!)
You will also be encouraged to participate in various classes, such as Defense Against the Dark Arts, Herbology, deification and more on your way to finally become an Auror.
The chances of this happening: Let's face it, Harry Potter by EA games, even the last, Half Blood Prince, which was about seven months of development time tacked at the end due to delay of the film, never were especially good. They are not bad but not very good. EA games has always been the Potter movie set-based prototype licensed … adequate enough to obtain the fans excited, but not good enough to really make the most of the source material.
It is impossible to know exactly how long EA has the license for the Harry Potter universe, but extends after the release of the final film (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II), then becomes increasingly likely that an MMO based on the Harry Potter books will become.
The Elder Scrolls: Many people have already called for the implementation long series of Bethesda games, especially the last two, The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion ", the only "MMO player.
The Maryland based studio spares no expense when it comes to the level of detail that goes into creating these worlds expansive, including individual life for most of the places featured in the game characters, fully voiced non-player characters, individual knives, forks, pots, pans, etc.
As does it work? It would be a cop-out to say, "almost exactly like single player games? Because the truth is that most fans want that kind experience of moving to an Elder Scrolls MMO. They want players fully voiced, they want the insane level of detail, the intricate, fun quests, and sometimes obscure, they want everything.
The world is already set, after initially choosing your race, Breton, Redguard, Imperial, Orc, etc. all you need do is choose your class from a number of familiar archetypes, barbarian, acrobatic assassin, bard, healer, mage, etc and hey presto, it's go time.
The chances of this happening: heated side discussion forum, we know that Bethesda at least considering the possibility of an MMO Oblivion theme and a theme Fallout MMO. The question is, they have the resources to take on such an ambitious project, and no risk of ruining the franchise should not be all that the game can be?
Grand Theft Auto: It's the elephant in the room, right? Some might say that with the imminent release of the next APB developer Realtime Worlds Scottish, do not need a massively multiplayer Grand Theft Auto. They would be wrong.
While APB seems interesting and fun, just did not seem to have soul and heart beating mischievously clever Grand Theft Auto game. Much like Saints Row, it (at least for now) seems to be just a pretender to the throne.
What makes GTA games is its great attention to detail, random talk show hosts, great music and memorable characters, that things just APB not yet appear to have.
How might it operate? Imagine a game where the Grand Theft Auto, new radio television, internet and new mobile content and dialogue are introduced on a weekly basis.
Imagine several cities like Liberty City, Vice City and equivalent Rockstar North, London Tokyo and connected by busy international airports. Imagine the whole world worked on Rockstar legendary attention to detail, spiced with a dash of humor Rockstar famous and satire as seen in "Grand Theft Auto IV.
Now imagine the world as it is crumbling under the sheer destructive force of you and two hundred thousand of your best friends and comrades.
As in APB you would be able to choose the law enforcement and crime and, as in GTA: Vice City Stories you would be responsible for building a small empire to assert their rights to parts of the territory within its city chosen. The police of course have something to say about his less than legal attempts to expand his empire. Let the tanks, helicopters and helicopters, boats, buildings and explosions.
Chances of happening: There are a lot of time last year the rumor was that Rockstar was going to buy from Realtime Worlds APB and slap a big, big, ugly, GTA sticker. Fortunately this was not the case, you can not help but Rockstar feel are better than that.
Some may argue that the franchise lost some of its luster with the launch of GTA: IV, but the game has sold about eight million copies, so that they know?
You have to think that someone has the Rockstar HQ at least brought the idea a GTA MMO, and his tentative steps into online play with multiplayer games in the last few shows they are at least considering that GTA may mean for the series.
Will it still happen? My guess is that eventually, especially if APB takes off and prove a huge success. The problem then is: will GTA: Online, then, be seen as an underdog?
Honorable Mention:
Half Life: first, the mention of Half-Life as a franchise that can be rotated in an MMO can seem a little strange … until you consider the living, breathing, post-apocalyptic environment of Northern European City of 17 as a starting point.
Monster Hunter: This beautiful is a portable MMO already, Monster Hunter III, the Wii will even have a monthly fee in Japan! Let's take the next step and do it is Persistent us?
Animal Crossing: Nintendo seems content to lead, and considering the capabilities of the Wii dodgy online, we are happy to wait on this one.
Bioshock: Wander the labyrinthine corridors of Rapture at its peak and gaze in wonder at the sights, sounds and wonders of civilization careening head to his inevitable fall, where do I sign up?
Halo: Microsoft has tried and failed in a leasr time to get this one off the ground, we would like them to try again, please, and try this one more time!

Snake Eyes G.I. Joe $60.99 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Snake Eyes is the code name of a member of the G.I. Joe team. Much of his history and information, including his real name, place of birth, as well as most everything else about him, have remained classified throughout all depictions of his origin. All that is known for certain about his military standing is that he holds the rank of U.S. Army Sergeant First Class , has undergone Drill Sergeant training and is a former U.S. Army Special Forces Delta Operator. He is also the team’s resident hand-to-hand combat instructor. Very little else about his past has been revealed. He was originally billed by Hasbro Toys in 1982 as a Commando, but by 1984, in the pages of Marvel Comics, it became clear that he was also a full-fledged ninja master. In every version of his story, Snake Eyes is quiet in his movements and is a swift and deadly master of multiple martial arts. He is an expert in the use of the ninjato and spike-knuckled trench knives (which he collects). He usually carries them in pairs but often uses only one. |
