Dundee History and Guide
Dundee (Irish – Dùn Dèagh – Dun means strong) has a great story and interesting. The scenario is Visually stunning and rivals any city in Bonny Scotland. The law (ie lot) when an active volcano, sits in the center of Dundee providing a romantic point of view all around the city.
Robert the Bruce was crowned king of Scotland in Dundee – the year of 1309. He could not have wished for a more beautiful dress formally his crown for the first time.
Dundee has been known for the three Js – Jute, Jam & Journalism, but now only survives J – Journalism. When jute was being produced in Dundee, the city had more millionaires per square mile than any other city in the UK. While industry has quickly died in the city, technology is prosperous and that supports the two main universities – University of Dundee and Abertay.
Journalism is still strong in the city and this is purely because of business skills used by the administration. DC Thomson have created some amazing characters in his comics (Desperate Dan, and my character Billy Whizz favorite – the Rodger Dodger), who have not yet been fully exploited in the new media era we all live in. Perhaps as Marvel may have a change of management, or a younger generation before major DC characters that DC has created is exploited.
Shipbuilding and whaling trade also played an important role in Dundee. Dundee has the enviable reputation of being the king in terms of whales killed per head of population in Scotland. Men who have ventured in mid-winter to hunt whales, although mistaken, probably the bravest men you could meet. Even now, you get the occasional whale swim the River Tay, and hopefully escape back into the oceans.
Dundee is now turning into a border city once again and offers easy access to the rest of Scotland maintaining its relaxed pace of life. The three main towns of Bonny Scotland are within easy reach as St Andrews, the home of golf and Perth, which continues to grow at the same pace, will soon become a city! Dundee is ideally located to visit and admire the natural beauty of Scotland.
Silver "River Tay is beautiful and geographical importance. The railway bridge has played an important role in the history of the United Kingdom. Thomas Bouche designed the bridge and ended up being held liable when a part of it destroyed during a storm in 1879. It is now considered by some that his design was not to blame, but the builders who used poor quality material to save costs. This is probably where the saying "is a botch up" comes from.
Dundee has many tourist attractions including ship Discovery & the Frigate Unicorn. Unicorn is the oldest battle ship timber in the UK.
If you are looking for entertainment, Dundee has everything this. The music is alive and well and the bars and discos are unparalleled. For the younger generation's West End is full of lively and cosmopolitan drinking holes as DCA. If you want to have fun the night you will not go wrong by visiting London or the Fat Sams Night Club.
Broughty Ferry in a pub worth a visit is the Fisherman's Tavern. Broughty Ferry is more welcoming to people who are looking for a more relaxed pace of life.
Dundee has a story so incredible is that impossible to do justice in an article so short. Everything you are looking for in a town you do not go far wrong by coming to the banks of the Silvery Tay and sample the delights of this beautiful city has to offer in Bonny Scotland.
