Comic Book Trivia (golden age)?

I just want to see if anyone here has even basic knowledge of the golden age of comics. Can a name well-known comic book character that first appeared in 1938? You can cite two well known characters that first appeared in 1939? You can cite a defunct label that produced comic books at any time between 1936 and 1955? (DC and Marvel editors are not extinct).

For '38 I'll say Superman For '39 I'll say the original Human Torch and Sub-Mariner. I will discuss the original Captain Marvel (issue February 1940) because of deadlines, but am willing to lose that. Of course, to defunct publishers will say Fawcett and EC argue that one has been absorbed in DC (Fawcett has lost a copyright action DC for a few decades before he bought his last book).
