BRUNO – REVIEW
8.5 out of 10
It would be easy to dismiss Bruno Sacha Baron Cohen as a vulgar, shocking, pushing the envelope, comedy racy plays like Candid Camera on crack, but is much more than that. Bruno and Borat is truly a great social experiment with Cohen serving as tour guide cluttered. Bruno is not as funny as Borat, but there are still many moments that will make you laugh until you cry. Bruno is offensive to homosexuals? I really I do not know … My perception is that Cohen is making fun of homosexuals is not homophobic bigot, but certainly opinions vary.
Bruno is extremely gay presenter to talk Austrian fashion-obsessed, fame and sex. He is unceremoniously dumped as host of Funkyzeit after causing a disaster in a parade NY fashion while wearing a dress made entirely of Velcro. Unable to find work in their homeland, Bruno decides to travel to America to seek fame and fortune and wackiness follows. The story is not really important as Bruno is actually a series of vignettes in which Cohen interacts with seemingly normal people and gets them to not say outrageous, off the wall things and this is where his genius is on full display. In fact most of the scripted moments of the film there are only to move the plot along and tend to bog down the process.
The objectives of the film of all politicians to celebrities to rednecks and homophobes for stage mothers and the majority Cohen often hits the bull's-eye, but there are times when it is out of your brand. In one example, Paula Abdul is unwittingly drawn into their trap, but it comes out as arrives as fast and there is lots of laughter based on the situation. Bruno also tries to make a sex tape with Ron Paul political and I was really horrified. To his credit, Paul remains calm, while Bruno is coming to him and, although it leaves a profanity laced tirade, he feels justified. There is a moment of hysteria Bruno who is cast as an extra on the show Medium and interrupts the scene they are filming the great comic effect. Stage mothers and fathers who are willing to do anything to get a show for children was the highlight for me. One even said it would allow your baby to get liposuction if it meant getting a show. so dirty and vulgar as Bruno is, it can be really exciting. I can not believe that there are people who let their kids do some of the things that Bruno Question (I do not want to ruin it).
Bruno is willing to do anything to get fame. At first he tries to become a movie star and when that fails, he decided to organize a talk show celebrity-centric. Watching the audience react to test Bruno talk show that features him dancing and twirling their hips to music techno and a talking penis is hilarious. When her talk show fails, Bruno does all join the army of about inciting a riot in the set of The Richard Bey Show in your search fame. Cohen likes to push the envelope when it comes to raunchy and he certainly did not hold back. several other scenes of sex toys, nudity and profanity male abound, there's even a scene where Bruno is his anus bleached.
Sacha Baron Cohen is more than just an actor or comedian, he is a brilliant performance artist tries to evoke a response, good or bad for your audience. There is really nobody else like it on the planet and the closest comparison would be the late (?) great Andy Kaufman. Like Kaufman, Cohen is always in character and not the rules of the game. He is willing to do, say or wear anything to get a response. There are not many actors who would be willing to burst into a convention of mortgage brokers nude, naked man chasing another with a sex toy. If nothing else, Cohen is the bravest performer out there. In one scene, Bruno will camp with three hunters from the south and Manly attempts to get one to sleep with him. This can be on screen only four minutes, but when you think about the fact that Cohen actually spent all day and all night with these men and never broke character, he is nothing short of amazing. At any moment these men might have decided to hogtie Bruno to a tree and leave it in the woods and really … Who could blame them? I marvel at the audacity that Cohen takes place even in such extreme situations.
To summarize, Bruno, though not as funny as Borat, is a vulgar, rude and depraved, push limits, the crude comedy which is also enlightening and frightening at the same time. Much like its star, there is more to the film than meets the eye and you love him or hate him, Bruno is well acquainted.
