The references to the dramatic looking eyes comics?

I'm drawing a picture of a friend of mine in the form of Western-style comics. Part of design will be very dramatic and extended in their eyes, only I'm having trouble finding a tutorial on getting the eyes the way they are designed comics Marvel / DC. Or even find a good reference picture. Help?
