Who are these “Gods” in Marvel Comics?

Who are the “Gods” in Marvel Comics e.g:

Living Tribunal
Eternity
Infinity
Galactus
Abraxas
Death
Oblivion
Celestials

and why are they soo powerful that traditional superheroes e.g. Superman, Spiderman, Hulk, Goku,Thor, etc. can’t beat them-wouldn’t that defeat the purpose of the heroes as it shows they can be beat?

I hear Galactus and Abraxas are pretty evil as well as Death and Oblivion; why can’t Living Tribunal destroy them, or better yet,why don’t the superheroes beat them?

You’re telling me our favourite heroes until our teens were nothing compared to these “Gods”? COME ON-they should be able to be defeated-every hero can be defeated but he comes back stronger-the same goes for villains. Why does there have to be an immediate superior?

They are cosmic entities. Personifications of the primal forces of the universe. They aren’t “villains” per se..they just /are/. “Death” in the Marvel Comics universe is no more a villain than the classic “Grim Reaper” in traditional lore. Galactus is the embodiment of the end that eventually comes to all civilizations. Eternity is the pesonification of the totality of the universe. They are no more “evil” than the harsh realities of existence are “evil”.

In many cases they /have/ been beaten or put into check, though it takes the combined might of many superheros working together in most cases. Too strong for any one hero to “beat” (you can’t ever truly conquer death or the universe), they give the heroes something to unite together to face.

Besides, if there is never a concept of a threat too great for one of our heroes to challenge alone..then there is a never a reason to be frightened or worried or concerned for anything a writer may throw at them. A completely invincible and supremely strong hero with no fallacies and no real threat is..frankly boring.
