He will devour a planet (can not remember the name), when a neighbor called Norrin Rad makes a deal with him: he will become a herald of Galactus, looking for planets to eat. In return, Galactus would not eat the planet. Norrin Rad received a "portion of the Power Cosmic", giving him all sorts of nifty powers, and a surfboad fly. Eventually, Silver Surfer found land.
