Marvel Comics Annihilation 3
Regarding DC’s Countdown titles, don’t you wish they would..?
get the whole thing taken care of already? I have not been able to purchase any of these titles because there have been so many, and the stories have taken so long. I may do so in the near future, but can you afford to buy all these? I sample a few comics here and there, and have 3 titles I buy on a regular basis, but with both Marvel and DC doing the Annihilation and Coundown to Crisis stuff, I just can’t afford to keep up. I like some of the characters from all the other worlds, etc., but I DO favor just one Earth, both for DC and Marvel. What’s your take?
One of the best things DC does is put out the graphic novels after the end of a comic run. Nowadays, I hardily ever buy the direct comic. I get the entire story, minus the annoying adds and afterglows, and in my opinion, a superior product. As for Marvel, Since the mutants lost me with the Apocalypse storyline, I no longer try to follow them. I could not understand the way the plot developed even in the graphic novel.
I actually think that is a trick by Marvel to make you buy more comics. Another Mutant storyline was years and years back, featured Scott’s wife who was not Jean although she looked exactly like her, becoming the Black Queen and literally raising Hell, in the form of 2 major demons and New York turning crazy. Mailboxes ate people…anyway, there was a crucial part of the storyline where the X Men are corrupted, turn evil and the younger version (New Mutants) had to fight them. The problem? There was no comic issue to show how that happen, that they became corrupt or who did it to them! You went out, bought all the X titles, and tried to figure it out.
Fact of the matter, they put it out in a graphic novel and explain that the X Men corruptions were added into it for continuity and never had been on the shelves.
Which is why I stay DC. Even if you do not buy every comic, they will review and let people catch on, as well as a decent product.
