The Big Island is the place to be in Hawaii

When you think of Hawaii, the most obvious destinations are Honolulu and Pearl Harbor on Oahu, or perhaps Kihei or Lahaina on Maui. For a variety of reasons, the largest and most diverse island of them all is often overlooked even Big Island real estate accounts for a huge percentage the total area.

The Big Island of Hawaii is larger than all other consoles combined. It is home to five different levels of volcanic activity. Kilauea is often in the news with their almost constant volcanic spewing lava into the Pacific Ocean. Although it is a major tourist attraction, this volcano is many miles away from the major population centers of the island.

The other two most famous volcanoes are Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. In fact, origin of these mountains over 30,000 feet from the ocean floor because they are higher than Mount Everest, if you consider your true height. The height above sea level is 13,796 feet of Mauna Kea and Loa Mauan 13 680 feet. The Keck telescope famous is near the top of Mauna Kea. Sometimes you can see snow on top of a mountain.

Speaking of snow, the Big Island offers a surprising number of types of terrain, from rain forest to the mountain forests of the highlands to the ski less tree mountain and almost a desert in some northern parts. Do not forget to many square miles of coffee, macadamia, plumeria and other tropical orchards to be found driving through the country.

Kona is best known for two things: coffee and Ironman Triathlon, which begins every year on the beach port of Kailua. By the way, the town of Kailua-Kona is hyphenated because there are a Kailua on Oahu. Someone important, as King Kamehameha III, has decided that it is easier to hyphenate the Big Island Kailua-than Oahu location.

Kona coffee grows on the slopes of Hualalai volcano on the island and other places. You usually find it is above the elevation of 1,000 feet or so. The tropical moist air ascends the mountainside and condenses into rain, even on the dry side of the island. Moreover, it cools very well at night, in the upper elevations. The environment, along with the rich volcanic soil work together to produce this world-bean famous.

The size of the island means that you can drive all day and still turn round. A resident here is less likely
suffering from "fever" island than on the smaller islands. Some residents of other islands to buy second homes in Grand Island. The Big Island offers some advantages for full-time residents in terms of quality of life and atmosphere. Life on the island feels more like a real community, as opposed to living in cities-heavy resort on Maui. You see the subdivisions houses, where people are living very normal lives football, work, church and social activities. The old airport was converted into a large park which includes lighted fields playing in the northern port of Kailua.
