Ironman Florida 70.3

Geelong World Ironman 70\.3 – February 2008
Geelong will host more than 1,000 triathletes from February 10, 2008 as they converge on the Victorian bay side city to complete the Geelong World Ironman 70\.3 series.
The event, which is managed by 'Ironman Corporation' will start at 7:00 with a leg of 1.9 km swimming, and returning to the Geelong Eastern Beach, where triathletes will collect their bikes and head out of town on the 90 km route via Portarlington Road to Hermsley Road. Finally, participants must complete the 21.1 km run back to the Park East, overlooking the picturesque Corio Bay. In all competitors will completing 113 km (70.3 miles) to finish the course with 75 first across the line qualifying for the Ford Ironman 70.3 miles event to be staged in Clearwater, Florida, USA In November 2008, which in turn is a qualifying event for the elite and the world famous Hawaii Ironman.
The Geelong World Ironman 70.3 event will bring together representatives around the world including countries like Canada, China, Germany, Mexico, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, UK and USA.
Brazil will be well represented with past championship leader, Chris Legh of men, he is competing against the likes of Luke Bell and Mitch Anderson Victoria and international athletes Courtney Ogden, David Dellow and Craig McKenzie
The women's event should be closely contested, with many competitors and considered including women ironman champion Rebekah Keat, Kate Major who finished third in this year's grueling Ironman Hawaii; Rina Hill Ironman winner of the Gold Coast and other triathletes as well as including Belinda Harrison, Paul Charlotte, Mirinda Carfrae and Geelong's own Jo King in women. King recently won the Tasmanian Half Ironman and is focused on rebuilding his ironman career after a break of three months.
A maximum of 1,200 competitors, has been introduced to the Geelong Ironman 70.3 event. Geelong is located only 75kms from Melbourne and is well served by trains, buses and airflights with an excellent range of accommodation
available during the event.
