Ironman Langkawi, Malaysia is about to take place in the city's scenery idealic Kuah. The race is to go ahead as planned on February 26, 2006, and there are still vacancies for those of you looking for a race, a very near future.
The Ironman Langkawi Malaysia first occurred in 2000 and has since become the favorite of many athletes from around the world.
Swimming is a 3.8 km swim in the calm waters City Kuah Jetty.
The bike is a 2 and a half loop course that occurs in the coastal roads of the island of Langkawi. The course itself is hilly and undulating
The marathon consists of two km 21.1. loops on a course that is generally flat, but with gradual rises in the 40-10 and 24-30 km. brands.
From all reports Ironman Langkawi Malaysia is well organized and supported with great enthusiasm by the local population.
One thing to be aware of the train and eventually to the heat that can be in anywhere 28-35 degrees C. Furthermore, it is a very humid heat and reminds me a lot that one can experience in the Hawaii Ironman in Kona.
Pros will be competing for cash prizes and age groupers will have the opportunity to qualify for the World Championship in Hawaii, since there will be places available for qualification group for age.
Accommodation prices look very reasonable. Several of the leading hotels in Langkawi is a few minutes into the race. However, expect to pay enough for the return flight from North America, with passages from Los Angeles and New York. No need to ferry from the mainland to the island of Langkawi as they now have its own international airport.
This seems to be a great holiday destination for those seeking a more "exotic Local Ironman "and comes highly recommended by those who have competed there in the past. Athletes from 17 countries are expected for the 2006 edition of this Ironnam.
For those seeking a last-minute rush, it seems that the entries will be available by mid-February. If not this year then you probably can be an ideal race to consider for 2007. Bring the whole family and make this a holiday destination Ironman beautiful. It is a great opportunity to visit the "other side" the world.
