Information on the island of Ibiza
The Mediterranean island of Ibiza (Eivissa to the locals) is located halfway between the coast of mainland Spain and the largest island of Majorca, about 100 km from each. Ibiza and its neighbor smaller, Formentera, are referred to as Pitiuses Pitiuses and, along with Mallorca and Menorca, form a group of islands known as the Balearic Islands.
Ibiza belongs Spain, although not think so from the proliferation, mainly British and German tourists who descend on the island during the summer months. In fact, the Ibicencos tend to think of Ibiza as a country in its own right, the Spanish mainland is the same game called "the peninsula". The main language of Ibiza is Catalan, a form of Spanish that differs slightly from the best-known Castilian. Traffic signs and menus to use both forms of Spanish, but there is a clear preference for local Catalan – hence 'Eivissa' instead of "Ibiza", or "bon day 'instead of' Buenos dias.
administrative capital of the island of Ibiza town is now a modern development around Dalt Vila (Ibiza Old Town), the ancient capital. The other two big cities are San Antonio (Sant Antoni) and Santa Eulària des Riu, but none of these cities of any size is large compared with the cities of mainland Spain. Most Visitors to Ibiza tend to congregate around these three cities, partly due to the increasing number of hotels and inns, but more thanks to the wealth of clubs and bars that line its streets. Ibiza may be small – about 35 km in length at its greatest extent, and only 20 miles wide – but its streets are dark and winding, and any visitor, without hiring car will struggle to get beyond the neon glow of San Antonio.
For such a small island, however, Ibiza is enormous. The popular image of the island, propagated by the media, is a drug-fueled, hedonistic hell-hole full of British teenagers staggering home along the road from San Antonio. It seems that tourists are sleeping all day and party all night, and that for all the cultural awareness that have their location, they may well be in Skegness instead of San Antonio.
Fortunately, this popular conception of Ibiza is all a mistake. Ibiza is full of spectacular surprises that reveal themselves as soon leave behind the big cities and go into the woods and beaches. In fact, the island is about sixty beaches, an abundance of mountains, forests, cliffs, small villages, traditional restaurants, exclusive restaurants, breathtaking architecture, stunning sunsets.the list goes on …
It is almost needless to say, Ibiza, the nightlife is what it is all about. During high season, the number of tourists visiting the island to go clubbing and have a wild time exceeds those coming for a relaxing break in the sun, and this fact is reflected in the hundreds of billboards across the island club nights and DJs publicity in the cities, you can barely move after the midnight for club promoters, club advertisements, parades, clubs and clubbers.
The clubs of Ibiza are, of course, the main attraction. The largest are based mainly in Ibiza Town and San Antonio, despite the space, becoming the best known, is located in Platja d'en Bossa, just south of Ibiza, and Privilege and Amnesia are located practically in the middle of nowhere along the highway linking the city of Ibiza and San Antonio. Ibiza's biggest clubs are open from the beginning the season until September, and there are always spectacular opening and hedonistic feasts of closure. Doors open at midnight, and the party continues until dawn, or in the case of space, doors open at dawn and remain open throughout the day.
The idea to just start your night at midnight can seem daunting to the clubber unseasoned, and some retire to their rooms after dinner to catch a couple hours of rest before leaving. This, frankly, is somewhat sensitive to Ibiza, and half missing on the scene fantastic pre-club membership. The main cities are full of vibrant Ibiza Bars attract gamblers who deal with drink specials and resident DJs. These bars will From the fabulous to the unwanted, but all are united in their mission to people preparing for a big night out. The session yesterday, essentially, begins at sunset, when the world's best DJs play tunes to chill the crowds on the beaches, after the real Balearic anthems are played at maximum volume until dawn. San Antonio is a good line in disco-bars, which combine bar prices and club tunes. Most of these are well known in the West End, and are free or relatively cheap to enter.
For a tamer place pre-club, have dinner at one of the many great restaurants in Ibiza in Ibiza. Those with strips of Ibiza port and San Antonio are particularly atmospheric, and are ideally located for the clubs and bars. Many of the island's restaurants specialize in traditional Ibicenco food – mainly fish – and excellent value for money.
