Fantastic 4 Honda

I need a different scooter / bike?

OK, here's the thing. I have a Honda C70, runs great and all that. I ride it and get back to work and errands about it. I love the 98 MPG I get with it, but I need more energy. There is a fairly large hill on the way to work, where the speed limit is 40. Depending wind, sometimes can not cope with the traffic, even leaving the plan. Since all my ride so far is in town, I do not want to have to change much. So: I would like to cycle with a 4 speed or less. I do not want a sports bike. I would like to get the mileage semi-fantastic. Must be Japanese, American or English. I will not buy a lot of Chinese crap so do not suggest it. (Yes, I'm hating. Sorry.) Somewhere around $ 1000 U.S.. I know the Shadow 600 has four speeds, but is out of my price range and I prefer air-cooled. Cosmetic condition not important. Any ideas?

See if you can find used a Honda Rebel or Nighthawk. 234cc, motorcycle travel classic, simple and reliable. Five speeds, you will get used. Mileage will not be as fantastic as your 70, but you'll walk a little more dignity and security. I almost bought one.
