fantastic 4 gif
geometry problem im really confused on?

Solve for x if BD=x+3 and AE=4x-2.
B is the midpoint of AC.
D is the midpoint of CE.

A. 5/7
B. 4
C. 5/3
D. 2

B and D both could work for this problem, so I’m a bit confused? Or maybe I’m wrong all together?

i’m also a bit confused with these two problems, so if you could help with these too, that would be fantastic!!

If AC=24 and AD=2x-2, then find the value of x.
A. 4
B. 7
C. 12
D. 13

If segment BD is the altitude of triangle ABC, find the value of x.
A. 10
B. 13
C. 19
D. 37

Hi,

Solve for x if BD=x+3 and AE=4x-2.
B is the midpoint of AC.
D is the midpoint of CE.

x = 4

To get this realize that BD connects 2 midpoints of the triangle, so BD is a midsegment. The midsegment BD is parallel to side AE and is equal to half of its length. That means side AE = 2(BD). This equation becomes:

4x – 2 = 2(x + 3)
4x – 2 = 2x + 6
2x – 2 = 6
2x = 8
x = 4

If AC=24 and AD=2x-2, then find the value of x.

x = 7

Since AC = 24 and D is the midpoint then AD and DC are both 12. If AD = 2x – 2, then:

2x – 2 = 12
2x = 14
x = 7

If segment BD is the altitude of triangle ABC, find the value of x.

x = 19

If BD is an altitude to AC then it forms right angles at point D. So

90 = 5x - 5
95 = 5x
19 = x

I hope that helps!! :-)
