Receiver Onkyo sr605?
Does anyone have this receiver connected to a Blu-ray. I need to get the settings of the receiver and player as im unable blu ray dvd to get it to decode DTS-HD Master Audio. As I have said it should be clearly indicated on the receiver as dts hd mstr, but only seems to decode DTS Neo or DTS. The blu ray im using in fantastic four rise of the Silver Surfer and states on the back cover is that the DTS HD Master Audio Also my blu ray player need to be dts hd master audio compatible as I do not know all the players except the pioneering new that is $ 1000, or my receiver must be doing it. I'm using a 1080p Sharp AQUOS LCD onkyo sr605 receiver, kef 3005se speaker package and hp20h Blu-ray player BD-sharp, I read the manual but can not for the life of me figure it out. Currently connected via HDMI from Blu-ray to the receiver, then HDMI output to lcd tv. Look forward to your kind responses.
If you want to enjoy the advanced formats HD audio format offered by Blu-ray has only two options when it comes to connecting your Sharp BD player to the Onkyo AVR. The first option is that you links can connect the 5.1 CH AUDIO OUT Sharp BD-HP20H corresponding to 5.1 Channel audio input connections on your Onkyo AVR. The second option, which would that the output to the advanced HD audio bitstreams (assuming no problems with HDMI handshaking), is to connect the HDMI output of the Sharp BD-HP20H one of HDMI inputs on your Onkyo AVR. As you are probably aware Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer is encoded with 5.1 channel lossless DTS-HD Master Audio surround soundtrack, as well as lower performance 5.1 channel soundtrack 448kbps Dolby Digital surround. Unfortunately the Sharp BD-HP20H such as Sony's PS3 and many other HD disc players, not support the new lossless DTS-HD Master Audio Codec only the DTS Digital Surround "core" only. ("According to product manager for Sharp Ning Ning Cheang, this was done to "licensing" reasons. ") If your HDMI connection works correctly and you want your AVR to handle all the tasks of decoding audio instead of the BD player (and it seems this is the case) then the settings of your Sharp BD-HP20H want to select HDMI AUDIO OUTPUT under the VIDEO SETTINGS – menu AUDIO OUT. Then select AUTO mode for the audio output for use with HDMI connections. What should happen when using this configuration is that with a disk as Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer, the BD player should automatically bitstream surround sound audio format that is best for the connected equipment, hopefully this would be the 5.1-channel DTS "core" contained within the DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack Fantastic Four discs. Although the DTS core can be digitally via Output S / PDIF outputs I recommend that you continue to use the HDMI connection, as a matter of convenience and improved audio performance for those occasions when you would like to play HD discs encoded with an advanced audio codecs from Dolby HD, or Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby TrueHD or LPCM multichannel tracks. Not feel bad, there are very, very few players capable of BD bitstreaming all advanced audio formats DTS HD and Dolby. This gap is expected to be significantly changing this year with the launch of the new generation BD players from companies like Panasonic, Sony, Denon, et al.
