Fantastic 4 Bed Set

should your husband get up in the night too?

My husband is a great dad, very hands on. I am on maternity leave at the moment and care for our daughter and the house. He sets off for work at 7:30am and gets back at about 4:30pm. Our daughter usually wakes once a night (except last night when she went 6 – 6!!) and i mostly get up but about twice a week (maybe sometimes 3) my husband gets up with her which is fantastic. He is getting a bit of stick off some work mates who say he shouldnt have to get up at night as i am “off work”. I do not stop all day! this is harder than my old job! My day is busy with childcare, cooking, cleaning, ironing, washing, running errands to the point i have to wait until my daughter is in bed to get a shower! and i usually only have a snack up until dinner time. I think his work mates think i can nap in the day!!! not possible when my daughter only naps for 40 mins max! and its in that time i get things done. I just hope his work mates dont convince him he is being hard done to.

Tell him to tell his man buddies that he doesn’t get up with her if it bugs him. But he should get up with her.

I’m a stay at home mom. When I gave birth, my hubby had some time off for the baby, but afterwards he would usually do every other bottle. He recognizes that when he’s at work, I have to take care of her with no breaks. All poopy diapers are mine. All fits are mine. The fight for a nap is mine. The bathtimes are mine. Yes, I have downtime, but I’m also expected to do the laundry during those times, pick up around the house, make meals, do dishes, and generally a lot of things. He recognizes that I’m not laying at home on vacation watching TV all day or playing on the computer all day. And he also recognizes that both of us need sleep.

Right now, my hubby works nights, but when he comes home he takes the monitor so I will sleep more soundly and then he gets up with her for an hour so I can sleep and not watch her or have to make breakfast. Realize, he’s usually exhausted, and I’m beyond grateful for his sacrifice. I wouldn’t expect that from most men. But getting up every other feeding (taking turns) I most definitely would (unless he was sick or under stress from work.) To me, that’s like the most minimal thing he could do. (Since he comes home so early, I’d also want him to do bathtime and help with dinner either watching her or making it. Bathtime with daddy has been such a great bonding experience for our daughter. Mommy just washes her, daddy plays with the ducks and toys… it’s just something they have together. When he had normal hours he’d do bath every night and he misses it.)
