Coaching: The art of getting his team a leap forward

Coaching: The art of getting his team a leap forward

I'm not a football fanatic, nor am I an expert in this sport. But one thing is certain, I am always fascinated with how the coaches were highly regarded by the team, the nation and football fans. The soccer team shocked the South Korean World Cup in 2002, when they arrived in April, while the young German team's fans breathed away by its fast pace and attacking style in the 2006 tournament. The men behind their success were coaches Guus Hidding and Jurgen Klinsmann. They were initially criticized for its approach called unorthodox, but effective and style.

What did these two ordinary men, has become extraordinary? They simply did not train because their work was technically but because they lived their role as coaches to boost their teams in a "great leap forward!"

In the business world, however, Coach term simply does not have the feature that has in the world of sport. Most managers prefer to become achieve task managers, selling things, making things, designing things, building, starting, ending … focusing more on the technical nature of the objectives without truly engaging with their people to achieve their goals. managers rarely are identified as trainers. When was the last time you saw an internal bulletin with the title page "Coach Builds Career Building Skills for your team "?

Perhaps the terms coach and buses are generally associated with the world of sport is not the business world, but when the coach is defined the definition can be applied to any type of situation the team. I particularly like the following statements about coaching and coaches:

Training is the art and practice of inspiring, energizing, and facilitating performance, learning and development of team members (Myles Downes, 2001).

The coach does not make much noise about the technical details, but emphasized more in higher-order tasks, such as vision, strategy and planning (David Rock in Bowers, 2003).

Putting the above statements into perspective, a coach inspires, energizes and helps to focus on vision, strategy and planning, leaving the existing expertise and capacity to develop self-care skills techniques. A coach is committed team members, and inspire them to apply their energy for their development needs.

But what it takes to become a coach? There are numerous ways to become a coach, but they can be grouped under the following:

A coach inspires and energizes its members of their team to succeed by developing confidence for success.

Hiddink first goal was to make sure that the South Korean players had the belief to take the lead in games and not being afraid of failure. To do so, he allowed them to go over the line, sometimes (Bouwer, 2007). Instilling that goal in mind of the South Korean team gave the players a sense security and confidence. It's that confidence grows and the mentality of the players to break the physical barriers in training transformed the team into a machine fighting spirit in the 2002 World Cup.

The coach facilitates the processes of team members result in learning, development and performance.

This can be done through various ways, such as planning, combining the job to the person, the involvement and collaboration in developing strategies and creativity using available resources to maximize opportunities for development. Before the 2006 World Cup, Klinsmann was thinking it was better to be goalkeeper goal, which was then both Kahn, captain and goalkeeper. With a change in strategy to attack faster and occupied in stages, after several attempts and without being disrespectful of Kahn, Klinsmann decided to bring Jehns goalkeeper Lehmann, who was a difficult decision, but because the right circumstances when the job was more suitable for him. Moreover, perceptions have changed the mentality of young German players were more focused and targeted for attack, It involved the players, especially the leaders in the planning process and commitment to ensuring that all team members, build a sense of ownership of learning process, planning and team development.

A coach is able to break the tradition, without breaking the rule to achieve team objectives.

Every organization has a tradition of living up, which in most cases nobody challenge even if it is proved that tradition is not good. South Korean society is a hierarchical society, which is embedded in their systems, including sports. With support from the president Korean Football Association, he broke with tradition, ignoring the selection committee decide on the composition of the team – which had never been done by a technician before. This was the beginning of his success in training the South Korean team as this move gave him the advantage of selecting the right man for the right job, and this was initial movement that leads to victory in South Korea who had never suffered before.

Germany has always been proud of his football pedigree. When Klinsmann brought preparers physical and a sports psychologist he knew of America – a country not known for its football team to support in their physical training mental health and national pride was hurt. But once again, the tradition was broken, but the result of breaking this tradition is that the German nation is proud of.

Applying these two teams to experience the workplace, success turns out to be inevitable if the managers also put hats coaching. Coaching brings more humanity in the workplace according to Myles Downey (2001). Effective coaching brings:

  • a sense of achievement power to issue extraordinary results in both an organizational level and personal level;
  • compliance, which includes learning and development because they were engaged in the process of setting goals and planning to achieve those goals;
  • and joy, because on top of his sense of accomplishment and satisfaction, but also enjoy an extended effect of your success as a team on an individual level

When managers take a step forward, both to become coach and manager at the same time, then this is the time when managers will make a difference through of its people. … Thus, administrators put on your hat and turn his coaching team to make the winning team!
