Captain America Son

2009 June 1

captain america son
I need a name for a character? & is this a good idea for a story?

Usually I would think of it myself but I’m having a lot of trouble.

He’s a sleazy English sea captain with terrible personal hygiene and a drinking problem.
He travels to America because he learns that the mother of his only son (which he didn’t know existed) has died in a freak whaling accident while scuba diving. i.e. she was mistaken for a whale.

The sea captain intends to find a home for the 15 year old, not wanting to give up his freedom of a life at sea to become a parent.

I have absolutely no idea what comes next. XD

Anyway, what should his name be?
&& Does the brief plot summary sound alright?
Thanks for the ideas!!
I’m really writing this just for fun, I’ve had the character idea for a while and just wanted to do something with him.
Don’t worry, I’m not taking the predictable option ;)

Sounds good so far, but please don’t make it predictable with the pirate becoming a good dad, make him leave the son on land, with some family friends and go off for another adventure. The son can be inspired to be a pirate when he gets old enough(teen), and to find his dad.

Captain. Jack Vane :3
Sir Richard Parker
Captain William Hawkins
Captain Dierick Middleton
Captain John Cromwell
Sir Joseph J. Morgan
Captain Maurice Stedman
Captain Richard Aylett

Excerpt: Avisa Relation oder Zeitung was one of the first news-periodicals in the world. It was published in Wolfenbüttel , Germany in 1609. The printer/publisher was Lucas Schulte. The first issue states that the news had been collected from various countries by January 15. It is presumed that the issue was printed on or about that date. Some books mention the Avisa as the world’s first newspaper . Before 2005 there was a dispute whether the Avisa or the Relation aller Fürnemmen und gedenckwürdigen Historien , which was printed in Strassburg by Johann Carolus , was first. It was believed that both started in 1609. New evidence found in 2005, however, suggests that the Relation started as early as 1605. There is also a differing view, which does not regard either of these two publications as newspapers in a formal sense. Authors like Stanley Morison make a distinction between newsbooks (weekly news publications in a quarto format) and later folio-sized newspapers.References (URLs online) See also (online edition) A hyperlinked version of this chapter is at The Comentarios Reales de los Incas is a book written by Inca Garcilaso de la Vega , the first mestizo writer of colonial Andean South America . Mutiny on the Bounty is one of history’s greatest naval stories — yet few know the similar tale from America’s own fledgling navy in the dying days of the Age of Sail, a tale of mutiny and death at sea on an American warship. In 1842, the brig-of-war Somers set out on a training cruise for apprentice seamen, commanded by rising star Alexander Mackenzie. Somers was crammed with teenagers. Among them was Acting Midshipman Philip Spencer, a disturbed youth and a son of the U.S. Secretary of War. Buying other crew members’ loyalty with pilfered tobacco and alcohol, Spencer dreamed up a scheme to kill the officers and turn Somers into a pirate ship. In the isolated world of a warship, a single man can threaten the crew’s discipline and the captain’s authority. But one of Spencer’s followers warned Mackenzie, who arrested the midshipman and chained him and other ringleaders to the quarterdeck. Fearing efforts to rescue the prisoners, officers had to stay awake in round-the-clock watches. Steering desperately for land, sleep-deprived and armed to the teeth, battling efforts to liberate Spencer, Somers’s captain and officers finally faced a fateful choice: somehow keep control of the vessel until reaching port — still hundreds of miles away — or hang the midshipman and his two leading henchmen before the boys could take over the ship. The results shook the nation. A naval investigation of the affair turned into a court-martial and a state trial and led to the founding of the Naval Academy to provide better officers for the still-young republic. Mackenzie’s controversial decision may have inspired Herman Melville’s great work Billy Budd. The story of Somers raises timeless questions still disturbing in twenty-first-century America: the relationship between civil and military law, the hazy line between peace and war, the battle between individual rights and national security, and the
