Media and the 2008 Elections. Your thoughts please?
The media has, over the years, been consolidated into a small group of mega-corporations, right? These CEOs are not unlike other captains of industry in corporate America. They wield their considerable influence in Washington to effect change, and we watch it, with little or no power to stop it.
I’ve been wondering why the media has been so gentle with Obama for several months now, then this possibility dawned on me:
Is it possible that the guys in the ivory towers have thrown their weight behind Obama because they see him as more manageable than McCain?
Good point! Obama has such little experience in the political arena compared to McCain. For all his shortcomings, McCain is still known as a maverick who will stand up for what he believes in, no matter who he has to go against. We’ve seen firsthand during the Rev. Wright firestorm how Obama conducted himself when the heat got turned up a bit…deny, deny, acknowledge (but stay center of the issue so as to not offend any potential group of voters), ignore. That, plus the whole “rock star” angle and the “we are open-minded and you’re not” is pretty much what’s fueling the MSM’s love affair with Obama.
