Randy Couture: One of the biggest Mma Fighters
Randy Couture is one of the greatest fighters in MMA. His career has been a once in a while and it comes out of retirement to a fight or two. He had his ups and downs of it, but you can expect some more big things out of it before it completely done. To really understand the context of what kind of fighter Randy Couture is, you need to understand where he was.
When Randy was younger, he was called a few different nicknames. They included "Captain America "and" The Natural. He was born in his hometown of Lynnwood Washington and was learning the art of fighting nearly all his life. He entered the UFC in 1997, during the UFC 13. During this tournament Randy impressed the world with their two victories over Tony Halme and Steven Graham. Five months later he would take a shot at the heavyweight contender, Vitor Belfort, UFC 15. Randy was 35 during this time and Victor was just 19 years. Belfort was much favored to win, but Couture TKO'ing over his opponent and take the title.
Because of his win over Belfort, Randy won the right to compete in UFC Japan against Maurice Smith for the heavyweight title. There was no winner in the match, Couture but ended up winning by decision. This did not last long, however, because the title was stripped from him due to a dispute between the UFC and Semaphore Entertainment Group. This was no problem for Couture, however, and he ended up taking over the title of Kevin Randlemen in 2000.
After the Randlemen TKO against Randy Couture for the competition was Rings and suffered a defeat by Valentin Overeem, but recovered and won the battle for heavyweight title against Pedro Rizzo. Rizzo beat Couture to the legs is very bad, but not enough to put him down. Randy kept his title over the next three years, until in 2003 he was overthrown by Josh Barnett at UFC 36. The victory was marked, however, as Barnett later tested positive for anabolic steroids.
Later, in November of that year, Couture would lose again and this time to Ricco Rodriguez at UFC 39. After this loss, however, things have come out in favor of Couture. The champion then light, Tito Ortiz, wanted to fight someone to defend his title but he had reached an agreement with Chuck Liddell to fight him ever. That left an opening for Couture Liddell fight if he wanted, so he took to offer. He had to drop weight for the show, but did so voluntarily. Chuck knocked Randy in the third round and became the only UFC fighter to win a championship in two categories different weight. After he had done that, now he had the opportunity (40) to fight Ortiz. It was hoped that this would probably be a bad loss for him and he will retire soon after, but it does not go that route. Randy Ortiz had the fifth round and won by decision. Couture, as always showed respect for opponents and showed his maturity in how he dealt with every fight, especially one.
Randy has fought his last "fight" official "in early 2006, and ended up against Chuck Liddell being knocked out by Iceman. Despite all this, Randy Couture proved that age matters in MMA, and even return to fight some fights lately. His career has been impressive, and he left his mark on the world's fight.
