37.5 Miles Frank Cardia is in Central Park

Frank Cardia The 37.5 miles in Central Park

It was a tremor of 42 degrees when I woke up this morning on race day 6:00 .. Not the ideal time to go run 37.5 miles But inside me and my friend Matt in New York City headed anyway. Now, fortunately, this race did not start until 8:30, then why the weather had warmed some degrees already. Normally, a run Central Park can attract thousands … BUT not this .. Not many people looking for sires to 37.5 miles, there were maybe 40 people this race.

The gun fires and we're off to the races. The race starts with a 1.5 mile out and back, and then you make one loop 9X four miles. Then have the first 15 miles or more down with just about any problem … but we both can feel fatigue will start to set in Matt had just done two weeks NYC Marathon before, and I had just set my personal best at Ironman Florida two weeks before … So we were both still a little shabby.

We get the first 20 under our belt and our time was still on pace to where we wanted it to be. Matt has experienced shin splints really bad and just get better you when you do something of this magnitude .. Thus, after the sixth cycle (25.5 miles or so), he had to call it a day. So now I'm stuck doing the last three cycles (12 miles) alone ..

Well, I can tell you this – that WAS NOT Fun At All !!!!! But I did it for the race and finished in 7 hours and 47 minutes – I was in a lot of pain for the next few days .. But another race under my belt.

And I live to race another day
